Unit Description

This unit will illustrate how rules and routines are used throughout the school year.  The students will learn that every person is special and unique.  They will get to know and share information about themselves, their friends, animal friends, and family members.  The students will focus on short a, short i, and consonants to help them build words.  Sentences, including a sentence frame, descriptive writing, and persuasive writing are all introduced in this unit. Along with those skills, students will be introduced to analyzing story and text structure.  Character, setting, sequencing, and author’s purpose are comprehension skills introduced.  Fluency practice includes reading exclamations, pausing for sentence punctuation, and reading patterns.
